Hiking to the Hollywood Sign
So you're in LA. You can't see it at night, you can only see it from a distance during the day... but you've just found out that you can in fact hike to the Hollywood sign! The only issue is, how?! Most travel guides don't tell you a specific way to get to the sign. If they do, it's generally not a very descriptive method and doesn't tell you what you're getting yourself into. That's where Lazy Rhino comes in.
Step 1 is to drive or get an Uber to Bronson Canyon (Canyon Dr) and head to the end. There are a couple of parking lots here and the trail starts at the end of the road.
"There are plenty of hiking trails in here including the filming location of the original bat cave and the free Griffith Observatory!"
Step 2 begins when you enter Griffith park. Griffith is one of the largest urban parks in the world and offers a very untamed experience. There are plenty of hiking trails in here including the filming location of the original bat cave and the free Griffith Observatory! Since you're here to see the Hollywood sign though, simply continue following the well maintained fire road all the way to the top and you'll come out right behind the sign.
Note... you cannot get close to the front of the sign and you can't touch the letters so this spot is the best you're gonna get. Also know that this isn't some hike that you can do in normal clothes and flip-flops (thongs). The trail is strenuous in parts and is approx. 6 miles round trip so be prepared. Bring comfortable clothes/shoes and plenty of water.
Once you're at the top, snap your pics (no duck face), send them to all your friends, and congratulate yourself on a job well done. Now enjoy LA and go get a hard earned brunch w/ bottomless mimosas! If it's a Sunday that is.
